Walking in Beauty, Walking in Peace: Afternoon of Mindfulness

Sunday August 19, 2:15 PM – 7:00 PM, monastics from the Plum Village Tradition of Venerable Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh will offer an afternoon of mindfulness, “Walking in Beauty, Walking in Peace.” The event will be held at Simply Dunn, a center for community gatherings located in Downsville, Wisconsin.

The monastics will offer several mindfulness practices including mindful sitting and outdoor walking meditation, singing, a mindful potluck and a talk, all concrete practices which help us care for ourselves as well as engage in society.

The event is taking place in “The Creamery,” a comfortable space located next to the octagonal school house where we usually meet. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the Creamery.

We recommend simple summer food for the vegan pot luck. Raw vegetables and dip, crackers or bread, salads, and desserts. We will have dishes and utensils. Please bring your potluck items in an insulated carrier since we have limited refrigeration.

If you wish to sit on the floor, please bring your own cushions. We have chairs, but do not have cushions.

There is a $5 registration fee payable the day of the event. Also, donations for the monastics are welcome. Register at Eventbrite page http://tinyurl.com/y93h2ex6

The Afternoon of Mindfulness is one of several events happening August 15 – August 26 as part of “Go as a River,” a Midwest tour by eight monastics. The tour includes a five day mindfulness retreat at Camp Courage in Maple Lake, Minnesota. The events are open to new and experienced mindfulness/meditation practitioners alike.
